Here's a sample of clues past to give you an idea of what you're in for.

Highlight the dark gray bars to find the answers.

Clue 1 (level 1)

( Context - this clue was given during a road race in 1995 in downtown Toms River, NJ. Not that that really matters, but sometimes the cardinal rule of the Human Race, "think locally" helps you with a clue if you're not really sure. )

JC Penny's. The JC is implied, as JC Penny is the only "pennies" in the area of Toms River.

Clue 2 (level 1)

( Context - this was the clue that lead to the finish line in the 2018 race. This clue was found on route 130 in North Brunswick, NJ. )

This is the Omega diner on Route 1 in North Brunswick.

Clue 3 (level 2)

( Context - this was the second clue in the first Manhattan race in 2001. The race started at Madison Square Garden and it was a foot race. )

Your next clue is found where the first ghost was found in the movie Ghostbusters.

"I have plan... get 'er!"

New York City Public Library, main building.

Clue 4 (level 2)

( Context - this clue was near the end of the race that took place in 1996 in and around Montclair, NJ. )

Mary mailed many meatloaves Monday.
Silly salamanders sat silently snacking snails.
Ursula's underware underwent unusual unloading.

New York City Public Library, main building.

Clue 5 (level 3)

( Context - this is again from the 2018 race. At this point the racers were on Route 18 in East Brunswick, NJ. )

BaNK OF AmErICa

Clue 6 (level 3)

( Context - this was the first actual clue from the 2018 race. Difficult to convey online, but the racers were handed this small vial containing a brown liquid while still at the starting line in Roosevelt Park in Edison, NJ. )

Sooner or later, with nothing else to go on, you will have to open the vial. Maybe you'll get it from the smell (Google says "wintergreen, anise, sassafras with a hint of vanilla"). Or maybe you'll have to trust me and taste it. (Google says "old fashioned, sweet and creamy root beer"). The answer is, of course, Stewart's Rootbeer, which used to be in the Menlo Park Mall in Edison before the pandemic.

Clue 7 (level 4)

( Context - Sticking with the 2018 race, this clue was actually the very next clue in that race.)

Vintage Vinyl, a pre-pandemic record store in Fords, NJ. I would consider this a level 4 only because you have to know all of the tiles in the Scrabble game, and which ones were missing... and then unscramble them. More of a time suck than a test of knowledge.

Clue 8 (level 4)

( Context - This clue was also part of the 2018 race and the racers received it on Route 1 in East Brunswick, NJ.)

That's a mess. If you can find a young girl maybe she can fold it into a paper fortune teller for you. Then you'll see what you're looking for.

Arooga's Restaurant in East Brunswick. This one you'll just have to print out to see.

Clue 9 (level 5)

( Context - And another from the 2018 race. This clue was received on Route 27 in Edison, NJ)

The answer is Monster Golf on Route 1 in Edison. There are two ways to solve this one. The "right" way, and brute force. There's only so many letters in the answer... and some of them are given to you. .

Clue 10 (level 5)

( Context - And this is my first leve 5 clue from way back in 1991. The location that this clue leads to (and probably where it leads from) is long out of business. But if you can get the answer you get double bonus deluxe proints!)

Of 64 squares, this game is made,
of 32 peices, the game is played.
Of "old code" this clue is wrote,
for not the peices, but their places
     should you take note.

The answer is 123 Auto Parts in Bayville, NJ. Long closed. How time marches on...
